It Going Down in My Belly

This one is too long for the side of my blog - it gets its own post.

I preface this by saying that my two year old son is incredibly intelligent and verbalizes very well for his age.

Me (sitting on the couch, nursing Ashton): "Aiden, honey, please don't put your finger in your nose."
... 5 minutes or so later ...
Me: "How's that booger?"
No reply
Me: "Did you get it?"
Aiden: "Nope."
... Not even 60 seconds later ...
Aiden: "I eat it!"
Me: "You ate what, honey?" (distracted by the evening news)
Aiden: "My booger!"
Me (with all my might, holding in hysterical laughs just begging to be let out): "Oh no, Aiden, we don't eat boogers! That is SO yucky! We do NOT do that!"
Aiden: "I did. I eat my booger. It go-win [going] down. Down in my bewey [belly]."

I knew one day soon I would have to go through the whole booger eating stage. I am sure I did it as a kid, but seriously, what would make a person do THAT?! Ew, gross!

Almost 1 month Later ...

Whew! What a month it has been since Ashton was born! I can't really remember any day specifically - it has all melded together into a memory of happiness and exhaustion.
But I want you all to know that Ashton is a sweet, sweet blessing from the Lord (when he's not crying!). He was a docile new, newborn, but has figured out the difference between being held and laying down, so we are implementing the pacifier, which is working to plug the "fussies." He's a hearty eater and spit-uper, loves attention from his big brother, and sleeps 4-6 hours at a time in his bassinet at night. His gassy smiles are beginning to evolve into smiles of recognition at my face. I think we will be making a turning point soon - going from chaos mode, to one that more resembles a proper family atmosphere . . . hopefully!

I just realized ...

I have no pictures on the computer since the day Ashton was born! Andy must have downloaded them all to his side of the computer. Of course, retrieving them is far beyond my capabilities, and Andy is outside raking the dead grass, so I guess all anyone gets right now is a pic of me fixing my makeup about half an hour before Ashton came into this world! Hopefully I can get some more recent photos up soon!

(Ooff! Gotta go change a little explosion that just occurred in a newborn diaper! LOL)

Sharon's Comic Relief

If Sharon missed Rick at all, Andy sure made up for his father's absence with comedy. Aiden seems to be following in the family tradition by keeping the laughs coming!

Samson

I got my puppy-fix when Aiden and I landed a gig last week watching 12 week-old Samson. He is just the most adorable little guy ever. Aiden thought he was funny, well, most of the time, except when Samson used Aiden's hands as chew-toys! Oh, but I just couldn't get over the softness and that little puppy smell!

First Bike

My parents sent Aiden the coolest present: his first bike! He had a great time helping Daddy put it together, and an even better time riding it! Unfortunately, he has only been able to ride it twice in the past 2 weeks, due to our yucky weather. (It's snowing as I type.) But he loves his bike so much, that we have had to hide it, to prevent melt-downs every time he sees it. I can just see him this summer, vrooming all over the backyard!

The Sunday Sneak

Andy was working, and I was upstairs finishing my hair and makeup before we headed out to church, when I realized Aiden was being awfully quiet. I yelled downstairs at him, but received no response. Upon examination, this is what I came upon:

My little boy at the kitchen bar, consuming a small cup full of M&M's from the Easter egg hunt. There was no remorse in his actions, because he simply had no idea he was acting in the wrong. He had never before attempted to climb onto the bar stools, and furthermore, had never had access to any of the goodies stored on the bar. It was difficult to not laugh as I calmly explained the rules to my sweet, innocent (albeit, candy-loving) boy.

Playdate at the Park

The comp had to go in for some repairs, but it's back home and running smoothly. Here are some pics at a local park with some friends from church a couple of weeks ago.

Muy Grande

Need I say more? Seriously, Andy. You're gonna have to start panning out!

Surprise Guest

Amy and the girls were over this morning and afternoon for a playdate. The doorbell rang, and I open the door to a slim, middle-aged man in a suit carrying a portfolio. Hmmm. The special congressional vote was yesterday, so this can't be a lobbyist for one of the candidates. And I really hope it's not a salesman. My thoughts get no further as the man says, "Ma'am, I am so-and-so with the Federal Bureau of Investigation" and he flips open his badge. I stood there, somewhat dumbfounded, processing the long words he just threw my way. Oh! The FBI! Government ... clearance ... Andy's work ... Andy ... oh Lord! My left hand begins to rub my huge, protruding belly, a nervous tick as of late. Thankfully the nice man cut my thoughts off again by stating his business as investigating the background of a neighbor who was recently hired at a facility that requires a government clearance. Alright. I know this drill. Been there, done that. "Please, sir, come on in and have a seat."
Among the fact that I am sure that man will forever steer clear of houses that are full of screaming toddlers and floors covered in toys, he will never know the momentary skipping of my heart at his opening introduction. Sure makes me even more thankful for my beloved husband. Not to be morbid, but any day with him could be the last. I am so sorry, Babe, for being a biting, hormonal wife. I love you VERY much and appreciate you more today than I ever have in my life!

Finally . . . My Life Explained!

Easter Bash at Church

Our church put on a kids' Easter party, including a drama, craft, and egg hunt. It was at the exact time of Aiden's nap, hence the serious face. He wasn't sure about the craft (he's too much of a perfectionist) but he caught on to egg hunting very quickly. And when it was all over, he was still hunting for eggs! It was all I could do to convince him to play with his friends and stop obsessing about the possibility that there might be a few more eggs just a bit further in the woods.

A Bump in the Night

Andy and I woke with a start last night when we heard a loud crash downstairs. Thankfully, my mind was actually working (a shocker, at this stage in pregnancy!) and I immediately identified it as falling wooden blocks. Upon examination, Andy declared that the East Tower was down.

Bad Day Turned Good

Ever have a bad luck day? Mine was yesterday. It started with the fact that I decided to wear sweatpants out in public (I know, that was probably the trigger for it all!). It was devilishly cold out, but Aiden and I went out to lunch anyways. I decided to take a different and round-about way to our destination just for fun: a cop was on my tail the whole time. And because the backroads are not well marked, I was like a 16 year old, nervous as heck the whole way. We finally make it, no getting pulled over. I chose Subway because they have Cherry Coke: the machine was giving out way too much carbonation and not enough syrup. Yuck. Then we went to the grocery store. We went in a side entrance, which smelled like the worst boys' locker room ever. Our cart even wafted the odor all over the store. I got nauseous. I couldn't locate boxes of matches for anything. Grrr. Prilosec was not on sale. (The only pill I can get Andy to take on a daily basis). At the register, I can't find my debit card. I couldn't believe it. I had to write a check! There are few things in this world I distain more than those who write checks at the grocery store! I made sure everyone around me knew this was not normal for me. We got to the stinky alcove on our way outside, I opened my sunglass case, and found my sunglasses in two pieces. That's it! I'm going home and calling it a day. I wasn't even in the mood for baking, lest an ingredient be left out or a batch of cookies burn. After dealing with a two year old tantrum, I got the boy down for a nap. I glanced out the window to see the mailman heading up the driveway. I flew down the stairs (round belly and all), and caught him before he rang the doorbell (a sure way to wake a drowsy munchkin). He had an enormous box from my mother in law! Selfishly, not waiting for either Aiden or Andy, I tore into it. Not to brag, I won't detail the contents, but let me suffice it to say that they put a smile on my face and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much, Sharon! You are the best! The Lord definitely used your giving heart to turn my day around!

My Little Boy

Ever since he was a newborn, I have said the phrase "my little boy" to my firstborn son whenever we look into a mirror together or we are just sharing a special mommy-son moment. These few pics epitomize that little boy that I love so much. Everything about him, his looks, personality, and developing love for the Lord in his heart melts MY heart!
